Mini Bathroom Makeover

September 21, 2016

As I first mentioned a couple of months ago, my husband and I are slowly but surely settling into our new place. After living in our new spaces for a little over a year, we are starting to make changes based on how we utilize each area of our home. Since we spend the most time in our main open living space, it was the first room on my list to tackle. Now that the living room is coming together (a reveal is forthcoming, I’m still waiting on a couple of pillows to be delivered), it’s time to set my sights on the bathroom.

To be completely honest, I’ve never put that much time, thought or effort into sprucing up past bathrooms. I find it hard to be motivated to make any big changes when I’m dealing with the room I spend the least amount of time in. Regardless of the actual hours, or lack thereof, passed in the room, I’m still motivated to make the space a bit more functional and visually appealing, hence our upcoming mini bathroom makeover.

Mini Bathroom Makeover

This is my ultimate bathroom inspiration as of late. It’s simple and combines natural elements with a touch of glam while still managing to feel perfectly liveable.

Spotlight on Style – Ethical and Sustainable Finds at MadeFAIR

September 18, 2016

Founded by Cambodia-living US expat Tavie Meler on the principle that compassion should be extended to each individual throughout the supply chain, MadeFAIR is a for-profit online retailer that invests in people.  After working in non-profit in the United States and noticing that multiple organizations were always competing for the same limited resources, Tavie realized she could make a greater contribution to society by starting her own company offering ethical choices to those in search of sustainable, fashionable options.

MadeFAIR’s online retail platform is full of unique hand-picked clothing, accessories, and home finds that Tavie selects based on a strict set of ethical principles.  In an effort to make less of an environmental impact, many of MadeFAIR’s products are produced from factory waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or be burned.  You can rest assured that each offering you find at MadeFAIR was created by somebody earning a living wage and working under safe conditions.

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop for ethically made, sustainable products look no further. MadeFAIR has you covered.

Classic Meets Modern in This French Home Tour

September 15, 2016

The home tour I’m sharing with you today is very much in keeping with this month’s French-influenced theme. This bright and newly renovated apartment sits proudly in historic Lyon, France and exudes classic elegance with a contemporary touch.

If you remember the first few home tours I shared, you might remember the name of Lyon-based French interior design house Maison Hand. Today’s tour is yet another stunning work from the design duo, only this one is a bit more personal. This is in fact designers Pierre Emmanuel Martin and Stéphane Garotin’s personal abode and it is every bit as fabulous, if not more so, than their client work. As you will see, the Lyon home that the two share is another incredible example of how fusing eclectic finds with classic touches can create a very unique and modern look.

Put on some Édith Piaf, pour yourself a glass of Burgundy, and soak up the beauty that is this French home tour.

Music Mondays – September Playlist

September 12, 2016

This month’s playlist is quite a departure from the cheery compilations of songs that got us through the long and hot days of summer.  We started off the season with an upbeat June playlist that took me back to the days of my youth when I made beginning of the summer mixes that epitomized the months of fun to come. In July I bemoaned the fact that the summer of 2016 was severely lacking in the classic anthems that we all hear so many times that we love, hate, and then finally love again as they continue to remind us of specific sunny day memories.  August brought a mix filled with hit after hit that goes down as my favorite playlist to date, certainly one that I will continue to listen to for months to come.  And here we are…the summer of 2016 is officially coming to a close in a little over a week and our hearts and minds are falling headfirst into autumn, as represented in this September playlist.  So bundle up, marvel over the beauty of the falling leaves, and get ready to enjoy the pumpkin spiced lattes to come.

Affordable Paris Hotels Under $200 a Night

September 9, 2016

Year after year Paris tops the lists of most expensive cities in the world to visit.  The leading factor for this ranking?  The average nightly cost of hotels.

The good news is that this particular ranking doesn’t dictate whether or not you can affordably visit Paris.  If you do just a bit of research you will find a plethora of affordable lodging options.  Whether you’re looking for hostels, AirBNBs or your classic hotels there are truly options at each and every price point.

Don’t have time to do the research?  Never fear, I have you covered with my roundup of my favorite affordable Paris hotels under $200 a night.
