DIY Soundwave Art

August 24, 2016

Music has played a huge role in my life individually and continues to have a large impact on the life my husband and I are building together. The two of us wanted to visually represent that influence in our home and became hooked on the idea of incorporating the image of a soundwave from a meaningful song somewhere in our decor.

When I began planning our living room mini makeover a couple of months ago I noticed that the inclusion of unique and bold art was a theme that ran throughout my inspirational images. It became clear to me that I needed to add some into our main living space and what better way to do so than by creating our long desired DIY soundwave art.

This simple DIY soundwave art tutorial can turn a special song or spoken memory into personalized art you can carry with you through life.

The Best Travel Tips the Internet Has to Offer

August 22, 2016

I’m leaving for Paris in a little over a week and naturally have all things travel on my mind.  I am always incredibly excited to return to Paris because it holds a special place in my heart as it was the first European city I ever visited.  I originally traveled to Europe following my high school graduation when my grandparents gifted me with a three-week long tour through France beginning in the City of Light.

At that point in their lives, my grandparents were expert world travelers.  Following their retirements the two took it upon themselves to explore just about every inch of the world, most frequently returning to Europe and developing a deep love for the continent.  Not only were the two of them a wealth of cultural knowledge, they were also huge proponents of traveling light, smart and absorbing as much as they could from local people and cultures.

Each time I travel I am reminded of the principles they held close to their hearts and, as I broaden my own horizons through global exploration, I do my best to soak up as much knowledge as I can in their honor.  A huge part of this for me comes in the form of planning.  I LOVE to come up with detailed packing guides, itineraries, and lists upon lists of suggested places to visit and things to do. Today’s post is a tiny glimpse into the preparation that I put into my trips and is a compilation of the very best travel tips I have come across.

Spotlight on Style – Transitional Pieces from Monsoon

August 14, 2016

Monsoon, a UK based company, was founded in 1972 by Peter Simon after he returned from a lengthy road trip around Asia.  With an original concept of sourcing clothes from India and the Far East, the company focused on merging modern design with traditional materials and techniques.

Monsoon’s initial offering was a range of colorful hand-block printed clothing made from natural cotton and organic vegetable dyes.  The unprecedented success of that line led to the opening of the company’s first brick and mortar store in 1973 in London.

Forty plus years later Monsoon and offshoot accessories brand, Accessorize, have over 1,000 physical locations worldwide.  Though the company has experienced immense success over the past four decades, the brand has remained firmly rooted in their humble beginnings and focused on promoting sustainable fashion and global change through trade.

DIY Acrylic Tray

August 11, 2016

My interior style is, for the most part, modern eclectic airing on the side of gender neutral. Around my house we like clean lines, cool, neutral tones and a few textural elements mixed in here and there to break things up a bit. Every now and again however I love to throw in a touch of glamour. Hey, I have to get my fix of femininity somewhere, especially in our masculine-leaning main living space.

When I came across this agate acrylic tray it was love at first sight. I had wanted to get a little drink tray for our living room and the stunning find would have made for the perfect one. The price tag however brought forth some very different feelings; $420 for a medium sized tray?!

Upon further review of the piece I became even more perplexed. The tray is made from photographs of agate stones, acrylic and drawer pulls for handles. It was practically begging to be recreated as a budget friendly DIY acrylic tray.

This DIY acrylic tray proves that big style doesn't have to cost big money. Based on a $420 design, this $30 tray makes a functional & gorgeous addition to any home.
