Music Mondays – August Playlist

August 8, 2016

Remember last month when we were discussing how this summer has been severely lacking in awesome musical hits?  Well, the music gods heard our pleas and have all but flooded us with amazing new track after amazing new track.  Suffice it to say I am really excited to share this August playlist.

Starting things off is Justice with “Safe and Sound” off of their first full-length studio release since 2011.  Yes, you read that right.  Since 2011.  They’re back and I couldn’t be more excited.  A bit later is the epic collaboration turned anthem “What We Started” from Don Diablo, Steve Aoki and Lush & Simon featuring BullySongs.  Based on how much I have been playing this one, it is definitely in the running for my personal song of the summer.  The Chainsmokers and Halsey collaborated on “Closer” which all but encompasses my obsession for both of them in one single song.  Phantogram teased their upcoming album by dropping “Run Run Blood”, a layered and fluid song with a nearly orchestral feel.  Last but certainly not least is “Palm of My Hand” from ZHU.  His entire new album is worthy of a listen and naturally had to be represented on my August playlist.

There is so much I love about this edition of Music Mondays.  I only hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!

Sofas Under $1,000

August 4, 2016

As the summer winds down I’m finding that more and more of my friends are in the process of or planning on moving. It was in fact about this time last year my husband and I made our own surprise move, so I’m very aware of the stressors that go along with the process.

Whenever I move one of the most frustrating things for me is that none of my carefully curated furniture and art fits as perfectly into my new spaces as it did in the old. That fact alone makes the thought of investing in forever pieces at this point in my life seem like a foolish idea. Add to that the sheer hassle of transporting large, sturdy items from one home to another and it’s no surprise that a lot of us in our twenties and early thirties fall back on continuing to live like college-aged vagrants.

In interest of helping all of us out during this season of moving, I decided to put together a roundup of the most stylish couches under $1,000 USD. These couches are in varying sizes, styles and colors and it’s my hope that there is something that appeals to everyone in my selection. The best part about these sofas? They look anything but bargain bin and are all certain to infuse a cool dose of style into your new (or existing) home.

Gratitude in July

July 30, 2016

July has ended up to be quite the introspective month. I was so looking forward to it following the month of the year in which I struggle the most.  Yet before I could even stop and fully take stock of everything happening in my life, it’s over.

Part of me loves that…I have been busy at work, busy with this blog and just all around busy with my life and I generally thrive the most during times like these. Yet there’s an ever growing part of me that really desires to slow down and appreciate all the amazing things in my life just a bit more. I’ve been going so fast the fun times and awesome memories made this past month flew by without me completely acknowledging and enjoying them.

Gratitude in July

Strangely, that realization is what I am most grateful for this month. It has become abundantly clear that I am not living in the moment as much as I want to and need to be. The past thirty days have been an excellent wakeup call.

Living Room Mini Makeover Inspiration

July 28, 2016

We have have been in our new home for nearly a year and little by little I am making my way through it and giving each room a mini makeover. When we first moved in it was unexpectedly and we didn’t have the time or money to put a lot of thought into what we wanted our new space to look like. Leading up to the move I blogged about my initial inspiration for each room (you can look back and see the living space, kitchen, bedroom, and bath inspiration) but due to the fact that our move was immediately followed by our wedding and honeymoon just a few months later we simply did not have the ability to turn that inspiration into reality at that time.

Ultimately I’m happy life worked out the way that it did because after living in the space for a year I have a somewhat different idea of the look and feel I would like to achieve. My style has evolved somewhat in the past 365 days, largely thanks to having this platform to continue developing it on, and I am ready to make some changes. First up is our modern eclectic living room mini makeover.
