Gratitude in January

January 23, 2017

It seems like a telling sign that I’m sitting here writing this gratitude post completely astounded that January is almost over. It is already feeling like 2017 is going to fly by at record speed in much of the same way that 2016 did, so let’s take a few moments to slow down and reflect on how these first few weeks of the year have gone, shall we?

Now, before I begin discussing the positive things that this month has brought into my life, I do want to address my somewhat sporadic blogging schedule this month. Upon returning home from Venice and London I found that I really needed some quiet time to decompress. You can read more about why I needed to take a temporary step back here, but long story short I had a bit of a rough start to the year and needed to do a hard reset on life. I really appreciate all of your patience and support while I worked through some things and am excited to get back to a more regular blogging schedule going forward.

Gratitude in November

November 30, 2016

To be honest, I nearly skipped writing a gratitude post this month. That decision had nothing to do with being unable to find things to be thankful for; it is the month the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, after all. Gratefulness is a national pastime come November. Rather, the presidential election still has me feeling a jumble of conflicting emotions that I’m having a hard time wading through.

However, three weeks post-election, it is more important than ever that we collectively attempt to come from a place of thankfulness and connectivity. It is for that reason that I am going to keep the tradition alive and share something a bit unorthodox that I have found to be grateful for in November.

Gratitude in September

September 30, 2016

It feels as if we were just talking about what we were grateful for in the month of August, doesn’t it? At the same time, so much has happened in my life in the span of the last thirty days that it feels as if months and months ought to have passed rather than a mere four short weeks. WHAT. A. MONTH. September of 2016 will undoubtedly go down as one of the most eventful and life changing months of my life.

Gratitude in August

August 26, 2016

August has been quite the month of rejuvenation for me. As I mentioned in July, life had started to feel a bit out of control and I was very much needing to take a time out. While I can’t say I exactly achieved the complete break from reality that I desired (who can?), I did do a much better job at listening to my body and what it needed over the past thirty days than I have done in quite some time. The end result is a more rested, relaxed and creative me and for that I am profoundly grateful.

The last month served as a fantastic reminder of the importance of self-care in all of our lives. It was a topic that came up in the comment section of last month’s post on gratitude when I asked for suggestions on how to juggle life’s responsibilities without burning out. Your recommendations and helpful words have been on my mind ever since.

Gratitude in July

July 30, 2016

July has ended up to be quite the introspective month. I was so looking forward to it following the month of the year in which I struggle the most.  Yet before I could even stop and fully take stock of everything happening in my life, it’s over.

Part of me loves that…I have been busy at work, busy with this blog and just all around busy with my life and I generally thrive the most during times like these. Yet there’s an ever growing part of me that really desires to slow down and appreciate all the amazing things in my life just a bit more. I’ve been going so fast the fun times and awesome memories made this past month flew by without me completely acknowledging and enjoying them.

Strangely, that realization is what I am most grateful for this month. It has become abundantly clear that I am not living in the moment as much as I want to and need to be. The past thirty days have been an excellent wakeup call.
