Music Mondays – March 2017 Playlist

I don’t know about you, but it feels to me as if this winter lasted FOREVER. Perhaps the uncharacteristically rainy LA days are to blame. Perhaps it’s the fault of the unseasonably frigid temperatures. Regardless, seeing the first glimpse of sun and warmth this last weekend felt a bit like one of those scenes in a movie where the clouds finally part allowing the sun beam down. It was THAT glorious of a feeling.

My March 2017 playlist feels a bit like that to me. After months of mellow music, it feels incredible to be listening to fun, high energy sunny day songs again. This medley includes some old favorites like Portugal. The Man, The Chainsmokers and Khalid as well as some new musical obsessions of mine like Ulrika. I first became aware of Ulrika when we became friends on Instagram and, let me tell you, her new single is on fire. It’s one of those uplifting songs I can listen to over and over and never tire of.

Even if you haven’t quite reached the sunny days we are blessed with again in Los Angeles yet, I hope this March 2017 playlist gets you in the mood for the light, bright and long days ahead. Let the sun shine on!

Music Mondays – October Playlist

I have to admit that I set out to create a much more mellow October playlist than the one I’m sharing with you today. I initially had a vision of cozy fall evenings in mind but inspiration ultimately took me in a much different direction. This edition of Music Mondays therefore covers a wide range of genres and, for that reason, is probably more representative of my musical tastes than any playlist has previously been.

My October playlist includes a few newer artists like Wiktoria, a Swedish singer and songwriter with a sound that is equal parts country and soul. You’ll find a killer collaboration between Kaskade and deadmau5 featuring Skylar Grey which I can only describe as hauntingly melodic. The playlist also features my favorite standbys of late, The Chainsmokers and ZHU, as well as some old friends. Hello Green Day and Kings of Leon, you have been missed. What can I say? This playlist has my heart.

Music Mondays – August Playlist

Remember last month when we were discussing how this summer has been severely lacking in awesome musical hits? Well, the music gods heard our pleas and have all but flooded us with amazing new track after amazing new track. Suffice it to say I am really excited to share this August playlist.

Starting things off is Justice with “Safe and Sound” off of their first full-length studio release since 2011. Yes, you read that right. Since 2011. They’re back and I couldn’t be more excited. A bit later is the epic collaboration turned anthem “What We Started” from Don Diablo, Steve Aoki and Lush & Simon featuring BullySongs. Based on how much I have been playing this one, it is definitely in the running for my personal song of the summer. The Chainsmokers and Halsey collaborated on “Closer” which all but encompasses my obsession for both of them in one single song. Phantogram teased their upcoming album by dropping “Run Run Blood”, a layered and fluid song with a nearly orchestral feel. Last but certainly not least is “Palm of My Hand” from ZHU. His entire new album is worthy of a listen and naturally had to be represented on my August playlist.

There is so much I love about this edition of Music Mondays. I only hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!

Music Mondays – January Playlist

I can’t begin to tell you how incredibly excited I am to start this new series on Musings on Momentum. Music has always been a huge part of my life; in fact I am a classically trained pianist who performed and competed seriously throughout my youth, I danced both ballet and hip hop growing up and cheered in college, and I obviously attend A LOT of concerts and festivals. I have been longing to incorporate more of that part of my life into this blog since its inception.

That desire led to the creation of Music Mondays. On the second Monday of each month I’m going to share a playlist of my favorite music at the moment. Most of my choices will be relatively new, but there will also be some remixes of familiar hits and old favorites mixed in every now and then.

It is my hope that by sharing some of my favorites with you, you will in turn be prompted to share yours with me, exposing us both to awesome new music! Be sure to check out January’s playlist and share your favorite music of the month in the comments section below!
