Music Festival Fashion for 2016

March 30, 2016

Coachella fashion…be still my beating heart!  Seriously though, I LOVE music festival fashion. Therefore it should come as no surprise that I adore the fact people take getting the perfect blend of high fashion meets flower child very, very seriously for Coachella.  It makes for fabulous people watching but also admittedly sets the bar pretty high for us mere mortals who lack designer friends and a never ending supply of festival-ready clothing.

In preparation for this year’s festival season I gathered inspiration from the Spring/Summer 2016 shows and blended it with my favorite hippy girl trends to come up with my top festival fashion picks.  While I won’t be rocking all of them at Coachella in a few weeks, I have kept my inspiration in mind when selecting my wardrobe for the festival and tried to infuse a little bit of everything throughout.

Portobello Mushroom Pizzas

March 29, 2016

Today’s portobello mushroom pizza recipe is one that we eat on the regular.  In fact, it has become our go to Friday night dinner.  I tend to default to it after a long week because it can be put together quickly, it satisfies the classic weekend pizza craving AND it manages to be fairly healthy. It’s basically a triple threat.

I first became a fan of these rich mushrooms last fall when I made crab stuffed portobellos to commemorate our move into our new home.  Since that introduction I have been searching for different ways to incorporate them into our diet because I love their unique dense and meaty taste. That flavor perfectly compliments my new favorite way to eat them…as a savory base for pizza.

These portobello mushroom pizzas make for an quick and easy weeknight dinner and are certain to satisfy even the strongest of pizza cravings.

Music Festival DIY – Gold Foil Bag

March 26, 2016

The release of the Coachella 2016 app signals that the wait is finally over.  Festival season is upon us and I could not be more excited!  I am quite literally counting down the days until I’m dancing under the desert sky.

In the next few weeks I’ll be revealing my favorite fashion and beauty picks for this year’s festival season and Coachella-specific Music Monday playlists so you can listen along even if you aren’t heading to the polo fields this year.  I’ll also be sharing three music festival DIYs that I could not be more excited about because, let’s face it, Coachella can be a bit of a fashion show and it can be hard to feel unique in a sea of crochet, rompers and off-the-shoulder crop tops (most of which I fully admit I’ll be wearing this year).  That is why I want to add a bit of individuality to my outfits with a few DIYs that I know will be singular to me.  First up is this glam and whimsical gold foil festival bag.

Bo Bedre Home Tour

March 24, 2016

As promised last month I successfully branched away from sharing yet another Maison Hand home tour.  I almost caved at one point as I crossed paths with another fabulous example of the duo’s work, but fortunately Danish design site Bo Bedre helped me through that tough moment.

I recently became acquainted with Bo Bedre and am becoming increasingly obsessed with their website.  It’s full of Scandinavian home tours, up and coming designers, amazing furniture and homeware, and lots and lots of illegible (to me) Danish.   But hey, who needs to understand what’s being said when you have these gorgeous images to swoon over?

The Bo Bedre home tour I’m sharing this month is literally a marriage between two styles.  Couple Jennifer and Esben had two contradictory design styles in mind when they began planning their dream home.  Esben brought a more modern aesthetic to the table while Jennifer preferred the feel of a cozy Italian villa.  Their home achieves a perfect balance between the two.

The home’s open floor plan, high ceilings and sweeping views ensure that the house is bright and welcoming, representing Esben’s taste.  You can see traces of Jennifer’s love of the Italian countryside in both interior and exterior brickwork, perfectly offset by contemporary furniture and fixtures to ensure a decidedly twenty-first century feel.

The low furniture of this living space makes the ceilings feel even higher and the floor to ceiling windows even larger.

A Natural Approach to Anti-Aging

March 23, 2016

As I have mentioned in the past I have been using heavy duty retinol for several months now.  While it has worked miracles on my skin (goodbye acne and the beginning of fine lines and wrinkles) it feels incredibly harsh on my face and often times leaves it dry and peeling.  I have known all along that as my skin calmed down and normalized again I would ease off using retinol on a daily basis. It’s a fantastic product and I’m incredibly grateful to have been prescribed it but there are chemicals in it that, in a perfect world, I wouldn’t be applying to my body.

It is well known at this point that our bodies absorb a large amount of topical products into our bloodstreams.  What is not fully known is what the long term effects of using products ridden with chemicals will be.  In an effort to find a more natural approach to anti-aging and a way to continue using a retinol-like product I jumped at the opportunity to try OZ Naturals’ Super Youth Retinol Moisturizer.  I had previously heard of OZ Naturals, a US based company that was founded with a goal to create healthier, efficacious skin care products to help those of us that weren’t born with perfect skin.  A quick Google search led me to the product’s Amazon page and the astounding 4.5 star average taken from 2,000+ reviews.  I knew there had to be something to a product that many people were raving about.
