Coachella fashion…be still my beating heart! Seriously though, I LOVE music festival fashion. Therefore it should come as no surprise that I adore the fact people take getting the perfect blend of high fashion meets flower child very, very seriously for Coachella. It makes for fabulous people watching but also admittedly sets the bar pretty high for us mere mortals who lack designer friends and a never ending supply of festival-ready clothing.
In preparation for this year’s festival season I gathered inspiration from the Spring/Summer 2016 shows and blended it with my favorite hippy girl trends to come up with my top festival fashion picks. While I won’t be rocking all of them at Coachella in a few weeks, I have kept my inspiration in mind when selecting my wardrobe for the festival and tried to infuse a little bit of everything throughout.

First up is fringe, one of the festival trends that will likely never die. Whether it be a fabulous pair of fringe booties, a fringe bag, or a fringe vest, this trend is easily accessible and can be personalized based on how subtle or bold you wish to be. Take inspiration from Roberto Cavalli, Tory Birch and Altuzarra and go with a subtle fringe accessory for a more low key look or if you’re feeling brave and want to make a statement go full out cowgirl-inspired.

Stripes, stripes, stripes. Stripes are BIG this Spring, particularly those of the vertical variety as featured in both the Salvatore Ferragamo and Chloe S/S ’16 shows. I’m particularly loving this sweet striped take on the trend from Saylor, perfectly accented by a big floppy hat to keep UV rays off the face.

Long live floral! I can’t get enough of the floral prints cropping up EVERYWHERE this year. From Chloe’s petite and delicate to Dolce and Gabbana’s bold and splashy, florals could be found all throughout the S/S ’16 shows. Whimsical, girly florals and music festivals make for a perfect pair.

I’m crushing big time on the re-infusion of straw bags into high fashion. A nod to the queen of casual chic Jane Birkin, straw just screams a certain level of cool sophistication that Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren both infused into their S/S ’16 shows.

Crochet…another festival trend that will likely never go out of style. Designers ranging from Dolce & Gabanna to Tommy Hilfiger to Sibling jumped on board with this classic hippy girl trend and featured pieces in their S/S ’16 shows that ranged from sweet to sexy.
There you have it, my roundup of the top five trends I’m most excited about seeing and wearing this festival season. What are your favorite looks for spring and summer 2016?
