Through Rose Quartz Colored Glasses

February 4, 2016

I have never been a huge fan of the color pink however I am finding myself being slowly won over by the light, almost dusty roses that have been cropping up in fashion and interior design. The color is so sweet and cheery that I can’t help but smile when I see it.

Luckily for me, Pantone agrees and has declared Rose Quartz one of the colors of 2016 making it clear that this color trend is just getting started.  While I’m not quite ready to take the plunge and bring out the rose quartz colored paint just yet, I am inspired by the subtle and not so subtle ways these blush loving souls incorporated the shade into their homes.  I hope you all enjoy some rosy inspiration just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Quick and Easy Chocolate Bark

February 2, 2016

Is it just me or is this year already flying by?  I can scarcely believe that January is over and February is upon us.  And you know what February means…all of our resolutions to eat healthier and avoid sugar are about to go out the window with the arrival of Valentine’s Day sweets.  In lieu of that fact I only feel a teeny bit guilty about today’s post.

This quick and easy chocolate bark recipe can be customized to your taste and makes the perfect Valentine's Day treat!

The recipe I’m sharing today is a quick and easy dessert option that I have found myself making almost every weekend lately.  I have drastically cut back on my sugar intake in the past couple of weeks (hello angry post-holiday skin!) but still occasionally need a little something to satisfy my sweet tooth.  That is where this easy chocolate bark comes into play.

This recipe is about as simple and straightforward as a dessert recipe can be and is even fun to make!  It would be a great little treat to whip up with kids for Valentine’s Day gifts and an even better one to indulge in yourself.

Honeymoon Stop Two – Prague in the Snow

February 1, 2016

After four blissful days in Amsterdam it was time to move on to a city I was very much looking forward to visiting, Prague.  I had wanted to travel to Eastern Europe for well over a decade, specifically to the Czech Republic.  The region always held a certain mystique for me and when we began planning our honeymoon I knew I wanted Prague on our list of destinations.

That desire coupled with the fact that the Prague Opera was performing Bizet’s Carmen, an opera I had long loved, dictated that we hop on a plane to spend a whirlwind of a 36 hours in Prague.  I knew it was a lot of traveling to do for very little time in a destination, but I was determined to experience as much as Prague as I could.  Ideally a snow covered Prague.

You know the old adage “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it”?  Well, Prague offered a shining example of just why I ought be a little more careful about what I wish for.  Leading up to our trip I was very vocal about wanting to experience cold weather and snow.  I packed long underwear, I carried a wool pea coat across the ocean with me, I was prepared!  Or so I thought.  It turns out that nothing could have prepared this LA girl for Eastern European temperatures and snow.READ MORE »

DIY Cleaning Spray

January 28, 2016

As I mentioned earlier in the month when I shared my favorite DIY room spray, a goal of mine for the year is to eliminate as many chemicals from our home as I can.  I easily swapped out store bought alternatives for my room spray, but the thought of trading in heavy duty cleaning products for a safer alternative has been a bit more of a challenge for me.  It is as if my brain is hardwired to connect the overwhelming scent of chemicals and bleach to cleanliness.  Yuck.

Needless to say, the adoption of a chemical free cleaning spray has been quite the process.  After a bit of trial and error (more on that below) I finally created a DIY cleaning spray mixture that both effectively cleans every day messes AND smells great.  Strong and mighty this cleaner is not.  Fresh and safe it is.

This effective and fresh DIY cleaning spray made up of Castile soap, water and tea trea oil is 100% child and pet friendly.
