Spring Home Picks

May 19, 2016

I have a confession…I have been secretly working away on a few exciting home projects that I will be sharing with all of you over the next few months.  Firstly, and most excitingly, I’m carving out and creating a much needed new work space for myself.  As this blog grows I am finding that my existing laptop on the couch setup is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and, frankly, not too inspiring!  My workspace revamp really can’t come soon enough.

Once I’ve addressed that rather pressing need I will be moving on to revamping several existing spaces in our home.  Suffice it to say I’m up to my eyeballs in gorgeous interior inspiration.  I put together this roundup of budget-friendly spring home picks to further fuel my remodeling fire and hopefully inspire some of you as well.

Natural Products for Color Treated Hair

May 18, 2016

I really want to be a low maintenance kind of gal when it comes to beauty but truth be told, regardless of how hard I try, I can’t seem to shake my love of and need for a few basic beauty products.  Unfortunately for my wallet these basic beauty products are usually on the pricey side. Take my hair for instance…not only is it expensive to get the perfect subtle bronde sunkissed look that I’m going for, maintaining that color has also generally required a whole lot of time and money. For the past year I exclusively used Keratase products and let me tell you, it got pricey.

While the salon-sold products really helped keep my hair looking healthy and shiny they also left me with a twinge of guilt every time I looked in my shower and thought about how much my hair products added up to.  Couple that with the fact that the products I was using weren’t natural and inevitably exposing me to chemicals I’d just assume not come into contact with and I knew it was time for a change.  When I had the opportunity to try out the HASK Kalahari Melon Oil Color Protection Hair Care Collection I excitedly took it, trading in my guilty habit of Keratase for a much healthier one.

Italian Riviera Home Tour

May 12, 2016

I’m switching things up and sharing this month’s home tour a week early.  I promise it’s for good reason and will make sense as the weeks progress.  Honestly, today’s tour is of such a stunningly beautiful space I’m guessing you guys will enjoy seeing it a week early as much as I’m enjoying sharing it!

Nested between Bordighera and San Remo on the Italian Riviera, this newly renovated cottage by the sea is nothing short of a charming slice of Mediterranean heaven.  Monaco based architects Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet of the firm Humbert & Poyet kept this petite abode feeling light and spacious by bringing the outside in, white washing the floors and walls and keeping adornments to a classic minimum.  So sit back, pour yourself an Aperol Spritz and enjoy today’s amazing Italian Riviera home tour.

Spotlight on Style – Spring Picks from Cuyana

May 11, 2016

Today marks the inaugural post in a new monthly series called “Spotlight on Style” in which I’ll shine a spotlight on clothing and accessory brands that are doing things just a little differently.  First up is Cuyana, a California based company producing simplistic pieces of the highest quality.

Cuyana, which means “love” in the Quechua language, was founded by two women driven by a mission to create a global scale lifestyle brand focused on quality over quantity.  The founders strive to infuse each piece in their collections with classic elegance in hopes that customers will be able to carry the items with them through their lifetimes.

Dairy Free Pots de Crème

May 10, 2016

I am something of a chocoholic.  I always have been and imagine that I always will be.  In fact, I have distinct early memories of “helping” my mother prepare chocolate mousse prior to dinner parties when I was a tiny little thing.  She always made amazingly rich mousse that my infantile palette could handle all of about two bites of.  It wasn’t for the faint of heart.

Fast forward twenty-odd years and I now find myself living a dairy-free, mousse-free existence.  It isn’t any fun at all.  To remedy this I’ve been experimenting with various lactose-free mousse alternatives in hopes of creating something even remotely close to my mom’s amazing chocolate mousse.  I’m happy to report that I finally succeeded in this dairy free pots de crème recipe.
