Music Mondays – May Playlist

May 9, 2016

I know I didn’t deliver my promised post-Coachella recap and that’s because I sadly didn’t end up seeing a lot of the festival this year.  I was sick for the majority of Saturday and Sunday and unfortunately missed out on a lot of the acts.  I was understandably incredibly disappointed…I had looked forward to the festival for an entire year and then got about 1/10th of the experience I was expecting and hoping for.  It has taken the past couple of weeks to recover both physically and from the let down of missing something I so wanted to experience.

Fortunately my husband and I are planning on a summer jam packed full of concerts and festivals to make up for Coachella and are ultimately catching the majority of acts we didn’t get to see over the next few months.  All hope is not lost!

This May playlist is largely serving the purpose of getting me, and hopefully all of you, ready for warm, sunlit and music-filled days ahead.  It’s full of cheery songs meant to take you from the bright and crisp days of spring into the long and languid days of summer.

Practicing Gratitude

May 6, 2016

Gratitude…  The topic has been on my mind lately as it feels more and more like life is moving at the speed of light.  When I stop and look at my daily existence I’m blown away by how beautiful it is. Of course there are things I would change, like not being ridiculously sick during Coachella and the week following, but in many ways I’m living my absolute dream life.  It feels as if over the last twenty-plus years my intuition was led by some distant glimmer of the world in which I wanted to live.  It is as if I was guided by a strong hand in the right direction, even when I at times went off course.  That isn’t to say that it hasn’t been a bumpy, winding and painful road.  It has been and I know it will be again from time to time, but I think those trials and lessons make the good times that much sweeter.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

May 5, 2016

The old adage “April showers bring May flowers” rang true throughout my childhood in Seattle. After months and months and MONTHS of rain, May would finally offer reprise in the form of sunshine and blossoming flowers.  Suddenly the Pacific Northwest was the most beautiful place in the world and all of us who that made it through the winter felt a sense of hope that we had lost somewhere around the fortieth consecutive day of rain.  Sunny days had come again and a beautiful Northwest summer was within reach.

I take for granted the fact that most every day in Southern California brings sunshine and warmth. There is never much of a changing of season and April rolled into May unceremoniously.  And you know what?  I miss the collective sense of excitement and hope that comes when you don’t take springtime as a given.

This May I’m dreaming of colorful flurries of flowers blooming seemingly overnight.  I’m dreaming of long Northwest evenings when the sun doesn’t set before 9 PM.  I’m dreaming of picnics by the lake and garden parties and Sunday brunches.  So today I hope you’ll indulge me in my nostalgia and fawn over some gorgeous tablescapes that epitomize the very essence of the month of May to me.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

I adore this perfectly imperfect table runner. It would be as gorgeous on a brunch table as it would on a wedding table.

My Holy Grail Anti-Aging Eye Treatment

May 4, 2016

Something about this last birthday has made me hyper-aware of the ways my body is beginning to show signs of aging.  Hard workouts leave me sore for days which never happened just a couple of years ago.  I don’t have the endless supply of energy I once had, generally opting to stay in on work nights rather than hitting the town.  Most notably, fine lines and wrinkles are starting to creep in.  Retinol is keeping most of the effects of visible aging at bay but there are some sensitive areas I can’t apply my beloved retinol to like my eyes.  When it comes to eye treatments I have been searching for “the one” for years and, hundreds of dollars later, have never been left satisfied with a product.  Enter the new hero in my life – PCA SKIN’s Complex Revitalizing Eye Gel.
