It is a little bittersweet to share my third and final music festival DIY with you today. I had such a great time with all three of my projects and am a bit sad that they’re all completed! Alas, all good things must come to an end and it just so happens that this particular ending signals that Weekend 1 of Coachella officially starts TOMORROW!
For my final festival DIY I went full on boho and channeled my inner Earth child. I’m not normally one for nature-inspired embellishments or big jewelry but for this DIY I combined the two to create a pair of very unique leather earrings that definitely push the boundaries of my comfort zone.

These earrings were the most labor intensive of my three festival DIYs but don’t let that scare you off! They were still really simple to make. For this project you will need:
MATERIALS
a piece or pieces of thin leather
an earring kit with ear hooks and jump rings
thin pliers or tweezers

To begin, create a template for your feathers out of thick paper or cardboard. Mine was approximately 3″ long and 1 1/4″ wide but you can make it as large or small as you’d like your earrings to be. Trace the template onto the back of your piece(s) of leather and cut out your feathers.

Once you have fashioned your feathers, apply gold foil to to them using foil adhesive and a brush. Use a light hand, you don’t need much adhesive! I applied my adhesive and foil haphazardly, as I wanted a less constructed look.

After the foil has dried take a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the edges of your earrings to create the appearance of feathers. Your cuts can be as deep or shallow as you’d like, it is totally based on preference. I started with really shallow cuts and increased their depth once I was comfortable with the process.
Punch a hole in the earrings where you want to attach your jump rings with a thick sewing needle or other sharp device. Open your jump rings with thin pliers or tweezers and insert them into the holes you’ve made in the leather. Connect the ear drops to the rings, close the jump rings and you’re done!

So there you have it, my leather feather festival earrings. Working on and sharing these projects really helped get me excited for Coachella. In fact, I’m more looking forward to attending this year than in past years and it has nothing to do with the lineup. It more has to do with the fact that I’ll be sharing the weekend with my husband, two girlfriends (let’s all take a moment and feel sorry for my husband) and ALL OF YOU! I feel like we have all gotten ready and excited for the festival together and I wish I could take each and every one of you along with me. Next year, okay? And if you come up with a last minute wristband for this year I’ve got a floor to sleep on with your name on it!
