The release of the Coachella 2016 app signals that the wait is finally over. Festival season is upon us and I could not be more excited! I am quite literally counting down the days until I’m dancing under the desert sky.
In the next few weeks I’ll be revealing my favorite fashion and beauty picks for this year’s festival season and Coachella-specific Music Monday playlists so you can listen along even if you aren’t heading to the polo fields this year. I’ll also be sharing three music festival DIYs that I could not be more excited about because, let’s face it, Coachella can be a bit of a fashion show and it can be hard to feel unique in a sea of crochet, rompers and off-the-shoulder crop tops (most of which I fully admit I’ll be wearing this year). That is why I want to add a bit of individuality to my outfits with a few DIYs that I know will be singular to me. First up is this glam and whimsical gold foil festival bag.
This is a really easy DIY guys and you can’t screw it up. All you need is a faux leather bag (mine was quite the find for $12.74 and looks much more expensive in person), a gold of silver leaf kit and a paintbrush. That’s it. Three simple supplies.
MATERIALS
Begin by applying the leaf adhesive to your bag. You can do this haphazardly or in a more uniform manner. When applying ensure that you do not allow the adhesive to pool and that it does not appear too milky. You want a thin, almost translucent layer.
The adhesive’s setting time will vary and be dependent on the material of your bag. It was rapidly absorbed into my bag and I needed to work quickly. Once your adhesive is tacky apply pieces of gold foil on top of it.
Allow the gold foil to adhere for anywhere between one to ten minutes based on your desired end result before brushing off the excess with your paintbrush. I wanted mine to have a messier look to it and therefore only allowed the foil to set for a little over a minute. There were a few spots I went over more than once, but I’m fairly confident this could have been avoided had I allowed the foil to attach for longer before brushing it off.
Wait 24 hours for your bag to dry and voila, you now have yourself a completely unique music festival-ready bag.
I had a lot of fun with this DIY and it really got me into the festival spirit. It’s a fun and unusual bag and I can’t wait to debut it at Coachella in just four short weeks!
