As I mentioned last Thursday, I have several home makeover projects on the horizon that I am so incredibly excited to work on and share with you all. My first project of the summer is one that is a long time coming. This girl is finally getting a (small) defined workspace!
My husband has been listening to me talk about my need for my own space for close to a year now and I am admittedly a little over-excited to get started on the project this weekend. As you might imagine, a lot of planning has gone into my little slice of office paradise in order to get the best possible result at the lowest possible cost. I have been absolutely swimming in gorgeous workspace inspiration and have finally narrowed down hundreds of stunning images to three that are guiding my design decisions the most.
This contained space is my absolute favorite. It incorporates rustic and industrial touches resulting in an overall elegant yet approachable look.
There are two challenges I have had to keep in mind when planning my space. Challenge number one is that the desk is going to be located in our loft-like living space, therefore I can’t portion off a separate office area. Instead, the workspace needs to squeeze into free wall space next to our existing shelving. This is a completely workable issue as far as I’m concerned. I’m a petite person to begin with and don’t like to take up more living space than absolutely necessary, so a small area is preferred.
The second challenge has required a little more creativity to work around. I have given myself a very small budget for this project and, as you can see from these inspirational images, have a relatively high end look in mind. I am therefore having to get really creative when it comes to selecting pieces of furniture and will be completing and sharing several DIY projects that will help me achieve the appearance I desire.
This gorgeous space avoids feeling overly girly by incorporating clean lines, unfinished wood and a fabulous gender-neutral brass lamp.
Challenges addressed, all that was left to do was finalize the style and look that I’m hoping to achieve. Seeing as my workspace will be in a common area of our home I don’t want to make it feel overtly feminine since our existing living area is relatively gender neutral. I do however still want the space to feel inspiring and chic.
To fulfill this desire I have decided that my design will be simple and streamlined, featuring muted shades and toned down metallic accents. This ensures that I won’t create a space that feels out of place in our existing design. The last thing I want is to interrupt the openness and flow of our living space.
This shared office features brass, bright whites, subtle luxe details, and a splash of wood, creating a stylish and attainable space.
A good deal of planning has gone into this project and I can’t wait until I am able to start turning my vision into reality this Saturday morning. I’m practically counting down the hours until I put my plan into motion (approximately 56 from the time this post goes live in case you were wondering!) and finally begin to create my perfect little workspace.
