When my husband and I initially decided to visit Venice I did all of my customary pre-trip research and came up with places to eat each of our meals at and activities to fill our days with. The whole trip was planned with absolute, borderline obsessive, precision. What could possibly go wrong?

Alas, non tutte le ciambelle riescono col buco. The Italian proverb literally means, “Not all donuts have holes,” and figuratively means that things don’t always turn out as planned. Our time in Venice was no exception to the rule. What I had severely underestimated is how challenging it is to navigate the labyrinth of streets that make up Venice, Italy and, needless to say, we didn’t end up having a chance to check out all the restaurants and bars we hoped to.

This guide to six of the best places to eat and drink in Venice therefore could be referred to as “modified” but includes some absolute gems, some of which will take you off the beaten path (at least as far off as you can ever get in the small city). They range from budget friendly to moderately affordable, from traditional Italian to downright quirky. If you plan on traveling to Venice any time soon I highly recommend checking out at least one of these delicious establishments. You won’t be disappointed.

From the earliest that we took abroad together, my grandmother instilled in me a desire to look beyond famous tourist attractions in whatever corner of the world I happened to find myself in. On that first trip with one another, fittingly to Paris, we explored all of the big names – the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame – but we also left plenty of time to simply wander and take in less explored areas of the sprawling metropolis. It was, in fact, those times spent in comparatively secret corners of Paris that I truly fell in love with the city.

Since that initial trip I have returned to Paris time and time again and with each trip I move increasingly further away from the tourist-filled city center. I still make time to take in the sites the city is known for but find myself spending more of my days exploring areas of Paris that most tourists never get to see. It is those adventures, those experiences, and those secret corners that keep me coming back, and today I’m sharing my very favorites of them all with you. Whether you are visiting the city for the first time or the fifth time, I highly recommend taking the time to check out at least one of these five unique things to do in Paris.

I have to admit, cocktails are about the last alcoholic beverage that I used to associate with Paris. Wine, absolutely. Unique and delicious cocktails, never. That all changed on my last trip to Paris when I was introduced to the wonderful world of Paris’ lesser-known cocktail bar scene.

When my husband and I planned this last trip to Paris we did not intend on sipping our way through the city. However, as you’ll discover as you learn more about each of the spots that I’m sharing with you today, visiting just one is likely to lead to visiting them all. That is because the community of up and coming themed cocktail bars is relatively small in Paris and a stop at one undoubtedly yields a recommendation for another. One cocktail in and you’re falling down the rabbit hole that is this city’s growing cocktail scene.

Our Paris Travel Vlog

I have never been as excited to share a post as I am today. Prior to our trip to Paris earlier this month, I decided I wanted to put together a travel vlog, my first ever, of our time there. The desire to start vlogging about our trips comes from two places. First, I simply love watching the adventures of others in their travel vlogs and was eager to share my own. Second, I wanted to incorporate my husband a bit more into Musings on Momentum and consciously carve out a way for us to work collaboratively going forward.

I have not previously shared much about my husband’s job, or about our life outside of Musings on Momentum for that matter, but that is changing today. My husband has worked as a professional videographer for close to a decade now. He has predominately worked with sports teams and leagues, traveling around the world to shoot different organizations. It is, without a doubt, an absolute dream job.

Over the course of our relationship he has begun traveling for work less and less, something I am incredibly thankful for, and today shoots locally the majority of the time. That fact, combined with my ever-expanding vision for Musings on Momentum, led me to suggest that we collaborate to create a vlog of our time in Paris.

The Best Food Deals in Paris

My husband and I spent an incredible week in Paris at the beginning of September and managed to fill our days with an almost incomprehensible amount of food, craft cocktails, activities, and fun. Due to the fact that the sheer number of places I want to share with you in Paris is nearly twice as large as I planned on, I’m going to break up my posts about our trip up into a three-part series. First up, and most importantly, is the topic of food.

France is known around the world for their incredible cuisine and that reputation is apparent no more so than in Paris. The city is filled to the brim with fantastic foodie finds, from the falafel shops in the Marais to the Michelin star restaurants lining both sides of the Seine.

I did a lot of research prior to our trip and had multiple dining options planned out for each meal of each day. That equals a lot of delicious food! We didn’t have time to sample it all but we did manage to try out a very versatile selection that I have been dying to share with you all, along with a couple Parisian classics. You might want to grab a snack because this post about the best food deals in Paris is going to leave your stomach growling.
