Around LA – North Cahuenga

June 28, 2016

Hollywood is iconic and represents a level of glitz and glamour that I did not fully comprehend until I traveled through Europe last winter.  I was in line for the bathroom in Amsterdam chatting with a German woman I had just met when I revealed where I was from.  I was shocked to see how incredibly excited she was to talk to me about her aspirations to move to Los Angeles and live amongst Hollywood history.  It made me realize that the place I call home is a place that may call their dream.

When people visit Hollywood they generally visit top sites like the Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame, leaving the area without fully recognizing and appreciating what else is has to offer. Just one block off Hollywood Boulevard, removed from the tour buses and costumed characters, you can find a wealth fabulous of eateries, bars and attractions, all of which are 95% tourist free, if you only know where to look.

For this month’s edition of Around LA I’m sharing with you one such area, the two block span of North Cahuenga Boulevard between Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard. The area has been a favorite of mine since I first began visiting my now-husband in Los Angeles years ago and is home to some of my most preferred spots in the entire city.

Possibly the most unique spot on today’s tour, The Record Parlour is home to an endless selection of pristine original records.

Beachside Living at Its Best – A St. Barts Home Tour

June 9, 2016

In keeping with the vacation vibes my June Inspiration post gave off, this month’s home tour takes us to the crème de la crème of vacation spots, St. Barts.  The Caribbean island has been on my list of must visit destinations for years and this beachside home only furthers my desire.

Thanks to Matt and Kate Holstein’s meticulous touch Villa Palmier, the gorgeous abode I’m sharing today, has been freshly remodeled and turned into the perfect Caribbean getaway.  It serves as a dreamy home for the Holsteins and choice guests lucky enough to book lodging in the space.  Yes, you read that right. You can in fact rent out this gorgeous home and live your own St. Barts dream!  Brush up on your French because we are off to St. Barts!

Around LA – Wattles Mansion and Gardens

May 29, 2016

I am starting a new monthly series called “Around LA” in which I’ll showcase different areas of the sprawling city I call home.  The purpose of this is twofold.  Firstly, it was a concept suggested by a reader and I always strive to give you all as much of the content you’re interested in as possible. Secondly, it serves as a great excuse for me to branch out and explore new areas of the city I otherwise wouldn’t spend much time in.  It’s a win-win situation!

In the future I will be crisscrossing the city in search of awesome spots to share with you guys but for the inaugural post of this series I stuck a little closer to home.  In fact, I didn’t even leave my neighborhood!

Italian Riviera Home Tour

May 12, 2016

I’m switching things up and sharing this month’s home tour a week early.  I promise it’s for good reason and will make sense as the weeks progress.  Honestly, today’s tour is of such a stunningly beautiful space I’m guessing you guys will enjoy seeing it a week early as much as I’m enjoying sharing it!

Nested between Bordighera and San Remo on the Italian Riviera, this newly renovated cottage by the sea is nothing short of a charming slice of Mediterranean heaven.  Monaco based architects Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet of the firm Humbert & Poyet kept this petite abode feeling light and spacious by bringing the outside in, white washing the floors and walls and keeping adornments to a classic minimum.  So sit back, pour yourself an Aperol Spritz and enjoy today’s amazing Italian Riviera home tour.

Weekend Getaway – Jalama State Beach

March 21, 2016

Our honeymoon in Europe left my husband and I full of a desire to continue exploring the world and having new adventures together.  While we would love to skip off to Europe on a monthly basis, our current schedules do not allow for it so when we returned home we began searching for interesting weekend getaways from Los Angeles.  We knew we wanted to push ourselves out of our comfort zone so we agreed that we should try camping rather than stay in a hotel.  The only question left was where.

I came across Jalama State Beach while researching dog friendly campgrounds and was immediately struck by the amazing natural untouched beauty of the area.  Located just sixty miles up the coast from Santa Barbara, Jalama Beach is situated on a jagged piece of coastline far from the main highways and busy beaches of the area.  Beautiful beaches are a dime a dozen in Southern California, but ones this isolated are practically non-existent.  A few Google image searches in and I was sold.  I quickly reserved a camping spot thirty feet from the beach and we began preparing our overnight trip to the secluded paradise.

Now I should admit right here that neither my husband or I are big campers.  I camped as a child and worked at summer camps during high school so had slept under my fair share of evergreen trees and starry night skies, but in case you couldn’t guess that was a long time ago.  It had been even longer since my husband went camping.  We knew we were going to be completely out of our element, especially since we would have Lola, who has definitely never been camping, in tow.  But hey, bring on the adventure!  We loaded up the car on a Saturday morning and set off up the coast.
