DIY Room Spray

January 7, 2016

It is no secret that I have a soft spot in my heart for anything that makes my home smell good (as demonstrated in my DIY candle making adventure).  As I think anyone who lives with a dog can attest, regardless of how clean you keep your home and your pup, sometimes you just need to freshen the place up.  Store bought fabric and room sprays can smell great but are often times ridden with questionable chemicals that I would prefer not to expose myself, my husband or Lola to.

The older I get the more acutely aware I am of what ingredients are in the products I bring into my home, particularly when it comes to what I clean with.  With a newfound commitment to keeping our lives as chemical free as possible, I embarked on a quest to create a room and fabric spray that is equal parts deliciously scented and safe.  With the combination of just three simple ingredients, I am happy to report that I succeeded!

This three-ingredient chemical-free DIY Room spray is a quick and easy way to keep your home smelling fresh all year long.

When I say that you likely already have at least two of the necessary ingredients for this room spray in your home, I’m not kidding.  My recipe is comprised of 50% vodka, 50% water and 40 – 60 drops of essential oils.  I poured each ingredient into a cute 16 ounce glass bottle I found on Amazon and started spraying away.

DIY Room Spray Ingredients

Vodka, purified water and essential oils (obscure Belarusian vodka not necessary)

I have to admit that I may have gone a bit overboard with my initial sprays…to the point that Lola started sneezing, basically defeating the entire purpose of creating a puppy safe DIY room spray.  I have since learned to regulate my application and love the fresh scent that lingers on fabrics hours to days after it was sprayed.

If you’re in search of a chemical free alternative to store bought room or fabric sprays I highly suggest giving this simple recipe a try.  It is just what we needed to freshen up our home this new year!
