Now that my husband and I are settling into our new home in Kansas City, Missouri, I am finding that I am more enthusiastic than ever to celebrate holidays. The 4th of July has long been a favorite holiday of mine here in the United States. It almost always falls on a hot and sunny day, the food is delicious, and you get a free fireworks show out of the deal! What’s not to love? This year, as we near the 4th of July, I am looking for ways to infuse a little red, white, and blue spirit into my everyday life. Enter this delicious and refreshing spiked elderflower lemonade, a quick and easy 4th of July cocktail that makes the perfect addition to any summertime celebration.

Much like the 4th of July, elderflower has long been a favorite of mine as well. There is something so delicate yet powerful about the addition that the subtle, fragrant flavor of elderflower makes to a beverage. I can generally talk myself into adding elderflower to almost any cocktail but, I have to admit, the combination of lemonade and the light floral flavor gave me pause. Nevertheless, I mixed the two with abandon and am happy to report that they are a match made in summertime heaven.

Before we get to this easy 4th of July cocktail recipe however, let us turn our attention to these fruit skewers because they pack a serious patriotic punch.
How to Make Patriotic Fruit Skewers
MATERIALS
1 small watermelon or 1/2 of a watermelon
1 box of blueberries

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Cut your watermelon into thin slices. Ideally, you want to be cutting between 1/2″ – 3/4″ slices.
Step 2: Using your star cookie cutter, cut out the stars to top your skewers.
Step 3: Slide the stars to the top of your skewers.
Step 4: Fill in the remainder of your skewers with blueberries.
A word about these adorable patriotic fruit skewers – these are not my original idea. I came across them on Pinterest from several different sources and was ultimately unable to track down their original creator. I would like to give credit where credit is due, so if you know who originally came up with this idea, please let me know!
