The Surprise Guest – A Thanksgiving Drink

November 24, 2015

I know what you’re thinking.  A Thanksgiving drink must equal cider.  Where’s the cider?  Well, I have a confession.  I don’t like cider.  It feels too heavy to me and heavy is the last thing I want a drink to be feeling on Thanksgiving Day.  After eating copious amounts of stuffing, turkey, yams, and whatever else happens to be passed my way, I want, no I need, something refreshing to cleanse my palate with before dessert comes out.  That’s where The Surprise Guest comes in.

We are all familiar with this cocktail’s human namesake.  He is the person that just shows up on your doorstep unannounced right around 3:00 PM.  While you didn’t invite him and aren’t prepared to make another spot at your table for him, you welcome him in because it’s Thanksgiving and that’s just what you do.  Low and behold, he ends up being the highlight of the evening and you can’t ever imagine celebrating a Thanksgiving without him.  The Surprise Guest is the Thanksgiving drink equivalent of that lovable rascal.

Thanksgiving Drink

I know that the last thing you want to worry about when you are busy juggling entertaining with kitchen duties is toiling away over a complicated cocktail.  That’s what makes The Surprise Guest so perfect.  It is exceptionally easy to make and requires very few ingredients.  This classic gin and tonic recipe is spiced up with the addition of tart pomegranate juice, lending itself to a decidedly festive taste.  Think cranberry but better.  Perfect for Thanksgiving, no?

Thanksgiving Drink

If you feel like branching out from cider this holiday season give The Surprise Guest a try.  If you’re like me you might not be able to imagine having a Thanksgiving without one again.

Like the unannounced company who somehow becomes the highlight of Thanksgiving, The Surprise Guest offers an unexpected take on the Thanksgiving drink.
