While there are signs of loving couples, hearts, and Cupid to be enjoyed around every turn this time of year, my favorite part of Valentine’s Day is that the holiday presents the perfect excuse to pamper ourselves. One of the quickest and easiest ways to indulge yourself on this day of love, or any time of year for that matter, is to treat yourself to a DIY steam facial. Not only is a DIY steam facial the perfect way to pamper yourself, the practice also provides internal and external health and beauty benefits.

Benefits of a DIY Facial Steam
- Regular facial steaming opens your pores to prevent blockage and build-up while softening blackheads and whiteheads, so they can gently release from your skin.
- Facial steaming promotes circulation by helping your skin’s blood vessels dilate, giving you that lit-from-within glow.
- The moist heat steam releases is hydrating, revitalizing tired skin.
- Facial steaming helps you connect to your breath while the natural ingredients of the steam relax and revitalize you both internally AND externally.
You can find my three favorite DIY facial steams below, designed to soothe, uplift, and detoxify.

DIY Facial Steam Instructions
- Thoroughly cleanse your face removing makeup, dirt, oil, and sweat.
- Pour boiling water or very hot tap water into a large bowl.
- Add your favorite DIY steam facial ingredients to your bowl of water.
- Cover your head with a towel so it surrounds your face and traps in steam. Lean your head over the bowl of water and steam for 5 – 10 minutes.
- OPTIONAL: Now that your pores are open, follow up with a face mask to moisturize or detoxify.
A note: It is not recommended to steam more than once a week, as over-steaming can irritate sensitive skin.
