My new workspace is coming right along and I am finding that I am much more productive when working at it than I was when working at the couch. No surprise there! I have gone on a certifiable blogging frenzy and could not be more happy about it.
When I shared my workspace inspiration a couple of weeks ago I expressed my desire to create a streamlined space full of muted colors and toned down metallics. The simple DIY bulletin board project I’m sharing with you today has definitely gotten me part of the way towards my goal and has completely transformed my little desk into a cheery spot full of inspiration.

This inexpensive project took all of a couple hours (factoring in the time the acrylic paint took to dry) and elevated my bland bulletin board into something truly special.
MATERIALS
white satin acrylic craft paint
gunmetal metallic acrylic craft paint
various sizes of craft paintbrushes
gift box
The instructions for this DIY bulletin board project couldn’t be more simple. Lay your bulletin board flat and paint away to your heart’s content! I found that it took several coats to get the uniform and smooth look I desired so I completed my board over the course of several days.
Once the cork dries move on to paint the frame of your bulletin board or, if you prefer, leave the wooden frame as is. I made my frame slightly darker than the board itself so that it would stand out a bit more.
I found that the frame took several coats of paint just like the cork did due to the fact there was existing varnish on it. You could save yourself the hassle of multiple coats by sanding the wood down a bit prior to painting or by applying primer.
After both the cork and frame are dry you’re ready to start covering your DIY bulletin board with inspirational images to get your creative juices flowing!
I didn’t want to use up precious desk space with a pencil holder and decided to incorporate one into the board itself by covering a small gift box in marble contact paper and tacking it to the board. The splash of marble adds a beautiful hint of texture to the board and provides me with much needed storage space.

Now that phase 1 of my workspace makeover is complete I’m moving on to additional DIYs to help add the high end detailing to the space that I so desire. I’m excited to share those projects with you in the upcoming weeks along with my completed workspace!
