Ideas for a Unique Thanksgiving Tablescape

November 19, 2015

It is no secret that I am not one to embrace traditional holiday decor.  Rather than go with customary pumpkins, turkeys or snowmen, I prefer to mix conventional touches in with surprising elements.  With that in mind, I shared inspiration for elegant and natural Thanksgiving decor two weeks ago.  Now with Thanksgiving Day just one short week away, it’s time to turn our attention to creating the perfect unique Thanksgiving tablescape.  While I am not hosting Thanksgiving or a Friendsgiving celebration this year due to our jam packed travel and work schedules, I am still dreaming up all kinds of ways to adorn my fantasy table.

You’ll note that there is a common theme of richly colored florals and fruits accented by candles carried throughout these photos.  That particular combination has a way of dressing up even the most casual of tables.  With the addition of metallic touches and some elegant glassware and flatware, you can easily transform your every day dinner table into a swoon-worthy Thanksgiving tablescape.

Thanksgiving Tablescape Gray Candles

My favorite table of the bunch. The rich fall florals and harvest themed fruit are spiced up by stunning gray candlesticks at this outdoor feast found on Happy Wedd.

How to Create the Perfect Home Bar

November 12, 2015

home bar styling details

My personal home bar inspiration for my own home.

In keeping with the entertainment theme of Tuesday’s post on how to create the perfect holiday charcuterie, today I’m shining the spotlight on the home bar.  The home bar is a fundamental addition to the home of anyone who entertains on a regular basis and becomes particularly useful during the holiday season when friends and family are coming and going.  Having some basic liquor and mixers in your arsenal can turn a dull, low key gathering into a positively cheery evening and can go a long way towards easing holiday tension between family members…not that any of us are familiar with that!

Creating a home bar is a bit of an art form and can take time and patience when you have budgetary constraints.  I know from personal experience how paralyzing it can be to find yourself standing in a store with your limited college/post-college budget staring at walls of alcohol, mixers, pretty glasses, and accessories.  Fifteen of your closest friends are coming over in three hours and you just want to make everyone happy with your fully stocked and gorgeous bar!  I’ve been there.  While you likely can’t buy up the entire store and quite clone one of the beautiful bars shown here, you certainly can take inspiration from them and over time create a home bar of your own that is equally as Pinterest-worthy.

Elegant Thanksgiving Decor

November 5, 2015

I have admittedly not been one to decorate too extensively for holiday seasons of the past.  This year however, thanks to post-wedding nesting perhaps, I am eager to begin new traditions that we can carry through our marriage and eventually share with our future child.  Making each holiday feel special and like “us” is suddenly a high priority for me.  My Pinterest addiction has taken on a new, focused purpose and I can’t get enough of looking at beautiful inspiration for the upcoming holidays!

Thanksgiving is feeling particularly special to me this year because there is SO MUCH in my life that I am thankful for.  This past year has been a beautiful blur of change and happiness, the end result of which is that I am living the life of my dreams.  I want to take the entire month of November to really relish in my reality and to be as grateful as possible for the beauty around me.

Though we are spending Thanksgiving and Christmas in Northern California with my husband’s family (it’s so fun to be able to call him my husband!) I still want to add festive touches to our Los Angeles home to get us in the holiday spirit prior to our departure.   I was able to incorporate some dark and glamorous elements into our home for Halloween and am drawing all kinds of inspiration from these examples of light, natural and elegant Thanksgiving decor.  The best part about each of these ideas is that they are relatively attainable, making them easy additions to incorporate into any home.

Living Room Decor Sneak Peek

October 29, 2015

We have been in our new apartment for a little over a month now and it is coming together slowly but surely.  We are purposefully taking our time selecting art and furniture and determining how to best use our spaces so we get it right the first time.  The one room that is close to complete is our main living area.  In fact all that is missing from the room is art for our gallery wall; some of which we have, some of which is on the way (from Ukraine!), and some of which we still need to create ourselves.

This room has been a labor of love and, while it is not quite perfect, we adore the space and are proud of how “us” it feels.   Since I discussed inspiration for each room prior to our move I thought it would be fun to show how it is coming together and how our living room decor inspiration is becoming our living room reality.

Halloween Decor for Adults

October 22, 2015

When I was a child I adored the pageantry of Halloween.  I remember carving pumpkins with my parents and grandparents each year, carefully picking out my costume, and scouring the shelves of the local grocery store to select the absolute BEST candy for my parents to give out to trick-or-treaters.  Halloween night itself was always an invigorating mixture of excitement and terror…multiple families in my neighborhood would make over their lawns turning their front walkways into pathways of horror.  My own father would answer the door in a creepy clown mask, petrifying our younger visitors.  It was always such a fun and unique time of year.

As we get closer to Halloween I’m seeing an increasing number of pumpkins and ghouls gracing the fronts of homes on my daily drives to and from work and am reminded of the Halloweens of my childhood.  While I am very much looking forward to re-experiencing youthful Halloweens with our own child in the future, I am finding myself wanting to have more grown up versions of the night for the next few years.  Enter Halloween decor for adults.  This combination of rich colors and romantic lighting with traditional influences  lends itself to a sophisticated and glamorous take on the night.
