H&M Home’s online availability in the United States is both the best thing that has ever happened to me AND the worst thing. I adore the ease and price point of H&M to begin with but add to that home decor? OH MY GOODNESS. Be still my beating heart! I just can’t say no.

Since we are still paying for all kinds of surprise moving expenses my decorating budget is not huge at the moment but I’m nevertheless looking for ways to cozy up our home for fall. These dark and stormy budget friendly home picks from H&M are high on my wishlist and have me wanting to wrap myself in a soft throw and curl up in a nest of velvet pillows in front of a roaring fire. How glorious does that sound?!

DIY Marble Tray

I have had this particular DIY queued up for a while but was not prompted to execute it until after we moved into our new home last month. Post-move my fiancé and I looked around at our expansive (relatively speaking) new countertops begging to be filled and said, “We need trays to organize with.” That was the push I needed to get to work on this DIY marble tray!

This DIY has been floating around online and on Pinterest for a while now and I’ve always admired it, so this was a long time coming. The project itself was inexpensive (under $20.00!) and straightforward but I did learn a few tips and tricks along the way that I’ll share with you below to hopefully save you from making the same mistakes I did!

For this project you will need:

One 10 x 14 marble tile – $2.21
Two drawer pulls – $9.90 ($4.95/each)
Four felt pads – $2.27
One tube of Gorilla Glue – $4.97

Instructions:

Add “feet” of some type (felt or plastic) to the bottom of your tile so surfaces are protected
Measure out where you want the tray’s handles to be and mark with a pencil

Apply a small amount of Gorilla Glue to the bottom of the handles and put the handles in place on the marble. (Note: I initially applied too much Gorilla Glue. There wasn’t anything specified in tutorials about the proper amount and I went overboard. This led to the handle actually sliding out of place upon application and to a lot of clean up! Just a little will do, Gorilla Glue expands as it dries.)
Let the Gorilla Glue set for about twenty minutes, then take a pointed object (I used an appetizer skewer) to wipe up excess glue that leaked out around the edges of the handles.
Let the handles set for a LONG time. I waited a full 48 hours.

Voila!

I mainly plan on using this tray on the bathroom counter or on a dresser top but will also bring it out as a serving tray for appetizers. For just under $20 this DIY marble tray is a beautiful, versatile addition to any home! Has anyone else made this DIY?

Home Goals: Gallery Wall Around a TV

Can we please take a moment to discuss the challenge of creating a gallery wall around a TV? Apartment Therapy has deemed this such a conundrum that they have devoted multiple posts to the topic over the years (found here and here). While they offer good suggestions they don’t really hit it out of the park in terms of inspiration for somebody like me who has a more minimalist approach to decorating. The lack of workable solutions available has led me to seriously question whether it is even possible to create a minimalist gallery wall that includes a television. Not one to be deterred by a challenge, I am determined to produce just that.

Due to the open plan of our living space our TV is not centered on the wall and is requiring careful design consideration. My original inspiration came from the below images, both of which feature neutral tones that I feel are ideal in this setting because they do not distract the eye when watching TV. (I’d love nothing more than to completely disguise the TV, thus not having to consider whether a piece diverts too much attention, but it simply is not an option seeing as my fiance utilizes it for work.)

In terms of color I am staying true to the neutral, muted palette I selected for this home. I find the below tones incredibly soothing which is essential to me to have in our open, multi-purpose room.

This is an area of our home that I know I am going to hold off on completing until we have lived in it a bit longer. While I am inspired by the above ideas I have not quite determined the best way to implement them in our space. My fiance and I are also adamant that we want each piece we choose to be meaningful and do not want to rush into any selections (though he has chosen two prints at this time). I am really looking forward to continuing to hunt down selections that we absolutely love to perfectly compliment our favorite room in our home.

Home Goals: Bathroom

This edition of home goals was a little different to write because we have now officially moved and are getting settled into our new home. I therefore have a much better idea of what will and will not work in all of our spaces which makes it a lot easier to visualize the ideal finished product.

The bathroom cabinetry, much like in the kitchen, is darker than I’d ordinarily choose myself but is apparently completely on trend according to Apartment Therapy. While I’m not particularly concerned about the bathroom being on trend, it is nice to know that the aesthetic is on point for the time being.

To start with the basics, our bathroom sink area feels similar to the below images featuring dark cabinets and light countertops. Sadly it did not come with the gorgeous tiled floor featured in the second example but rather with a lovely wood…no complaints here!

The countertop accessories in this bathroom are low-key glamour perfection.

Now about those tiles…

I am planning on executing some serious organization and accessorizing in the upcoming months and am drawing inspiration from these images and objects.

I have some DIYs in mind to create cute storage containers on a budget.

We lost a linen closet in the move and I’m searching for nice ways to store linens under our sink. This image ties together linen and bath storage nicely.

I am doing my best to keep purchases under control but have decided that new Turkish towels, likely in a charcoal gray, for the crisp, white shower and toilet room of our bathroom are a must. They look so lovely draped across the tub in this bathroom.

Accessories will come in time as I come across the perfect items (or DIY ideas), but I would ultimately like to incorporate natural elements along with metallics to round out the look. I’m really excited to be looking out for the perfect finishing touches! I have a feeling the bathroom area is going to become one of my favorite spots in the apartment.

Home Goals: Bedroom

Strangely enough, out of every room in our new home, I’m struggling the most with deciding how to arrange and decorate our bedroom. We are going from a really large bedroom to one that feels a lot smaller. Dimension wise it is not hugely different in size however thanks to an angled wall it feels a bit cramped to me. We have measured the walls and our furniture again and again and have played with the layout and have determined that we can fit all of our existing bedroom furniture in but it’s going to be a tight fit. Suffice it to say that I would not have purchased that wardrobe of mine had I known about our move.

Since it is a smaller space I am going to stick to light hues in an effort to keep the room feeling as open and airy as possible. All our furniture is white or light wood and our existing bedspread is in shades of gray, so we are pretty well set for the bedroom. The only real choices to make are in regards to what art to hang and what details I want to incorporate on top of my dressers. I have a strange desire to go moodier and more graphic in details than I normally would to offset the lightness of the rest of the design.

When it comes to my dressers I want to stick to neutral shades with a bit of metallic and delicate pattern thrown in. The below dresser top vignettes are providing a wealth of inspiration.

I’m going to style a dresser top in a similar manner, though I will opt for a darker tray to offset my white dressers.

You can not go wrong with books, candles and crisp, fresh flowers in the bedroom.

Finally, to cozy up the room a bit and add a layer of warmth in the upcoming fall and winter, I’d love a luxurious faux fur throw draped casually across the foot of the bed.

Perfection!

I’m guessing that the bedroom is the area of our home that will take the longest to complete so I’ve got a while to keep dreaming and planning, but I’m happy with the start I have made!
