How to Create the Perfect Home Bar

November 12, 2015

home bar styling details

My personal home bar inspiration for my own home.

In keeping with the entertainment theme of Tuesday’s post on how to create the perfect holiday charcuterie, today I’m shining the spotlight on the home bar.  The home bar is a fundamental addition to the home of anyone who entertains on a regular basis and becomes particularly useful during the holiday season when friends and family are coming and going.  Having some basic liquor and mixers in your arsenal can turn a dull, low key gathering into a positively cheery evening and can go a long way towards easing holiday tension between family members…not that any of us are familiar with that!

Creating a home bar is a bit of an art form and can take time and patience when you have budgetary constraints.  I know from personal experience how paralyzing it can be to find yourself standing in a store with your limited college/post-college budget staring at walls of alcohol, mixers, pretty glasses, and accessories.  Fifteen of your closest friends are coming over in three hours and you just want to make everyone happy with your fully stocked and gorgeous bar!  I’ve been there.  While you likely can’t buy up the entire store and quite clone one of the beautiful bars shown here, you certainly can take inspiration from them and over time create a home bar of your own that is equally as Pinterest-worthy.

How to Make a Charcuterie

November 10, 2015

holiday charcuterie hither and tither

A gorgeous charcuterie to inspire from Ashley at Hither and Tither.

I adore a good charcuterie.  I might even venture to say that I am borderline obsessed with them.  I have no idea where this affection came from, but I am infinitely impressed by anyone who can create an impeccably beautiful and tasty spread.

As I have gotten older charcuteries have become my go-to whenever we are having a more formal get together (i.e. basically anything that does not involve watching a sporting event with friends).  I love them because they can be absolutely beautiful, accommodate any budget and offer enough variety to keep all of your guests happy.

Our San Francisco City Hall Wedding

November 6, 2015

Our wedding day of October 23, 2015 was a day that was special beyond words for my husband and I, as well as for our parents.  I personally felt even deeper levels of emotion than I anticipated along with a certainty that I was absolutely marrying the person I was intended to.  I had searched for that conviction for my entire adult life and to be presented with it on our wedding day was the greatest gift I could possibly receive.

We had some non-traditional elements to the day such as the fact that my husband came over before we left for our ceremony to spend time with me and my parents.  I am so thankful I was able to convince him to come over pre-wedding because it really helped put me at ease to have my best friend by my side as we got ready for our day together.  It also gave him the opportunity to get some photos of all of our wedding preparations.

My mom and dad were also busy snapping away on their iPhones en route to and during the ceremony so we ended up with a lot of candid photos that captured some truly beautiful moments.  There is a bit of a lack of consistency in these photos but I adore each and every one of them because they were taken with love.  I will share our professional photos down the road when we receive them but in the meantime wanted to give a sneak peek into our San Francisco City Hall wedding.

Wedding Inspiration

October 30, 2015

Our wedding day has come and gone and I can say without a doubt that it was the most perfect, magical and wonderful day of my life.  It still feels a bit like such a beautiful and emotional day must have existed solely in the realm of my dreams…it was that lovely.  It is true what people say…it was the happiest day of my life up until that point and every day since then I have woken up happier and happier, more and more excited about the beautiful life we are creating together.

I will talk a bit more about our wedding over the next few weeks but wanted to start by sharing some of my original wedding inspiration.  From the start I knew I wanted to juxtapose the formality and grandeur of San Francisco City Hall with a non-traditional dress and bouquet.  In keeping with that, I had selected casual, easy hairstyles and makeup looks to guide the direction I went in when it came to beauty.

The below images are ones I collected over the past year that I found myself returning to again and again as our wedding date of October 23 approached.  You’ll see that my wedding inspiration very much became a reality when I share a few of our personal photos next week!
