Modern Italian Home Tour

January 12, 2017

Following my return to Los Angeles from Venice, Italy, I have been obsessed with all things Italian. Can you blame me? The delicious food, rich history, gorgeous architecture, and innate understanding of how to enjoy life that Italians are famous for are all liable to turn the most casual of tourists into lifelong fans of the country.  Needless to say, I would be 100% on board with a move to Italy.

So what exactly would my dream home look like? Well, I think I’d borrow the clean lines and muted palette of today’s modern Italian home tour. When your home is situated amidst rolling Tuscan hills like this bold house belonging to Milan-based architect Piero Lissoni is, and like my dream abode would be, you can really let the unrestricted jaw-dropping views do the talking.

Modern Italian Home Tour Main

A study in streamlined neutrals.

Piero Lissoni’s designs are firmly rooted in minimalism, something that is clear to anyone who is lucky enough to encounter his work. In fact, Lissoni designed the modern Italian home tour I’m sharing with you today with the image of a child’s drawing of a house in mind; four simple concrete walls to form a rectangular edifice, a gabled roof, and a chimney. With the most basic of structures in place, Lissoni was able to turn his focus to how to best bring the undeniable beauty of his outdoor surroundings in.

An elegant solution to open storage.

Modern Italian Home Tour Kitchen

I’m not certain I’d ever leave a kitchen this gorgeous.

The modern home is situated on a plot of protected land in a region of Italy called Maremma, an area of Tuscany that is about as far off the tour circuit as you can get. To ensure that the remote home feels welcoming year round, Lissoni designed the space with an open and inviting floor plan. Though a furniture designer in his own right, when it came to filling his home, Lissoni shied away from his own works in lieu of everything from hand-me-downs from his grandmother to flea market and Ikea finds. The end result is an eclectic mix of utilitarian practicality and modern whimsy, a combination that feels surprisingly at home situated in the rolling hills of Tuscany.

Outdoor living is a must with views this idyllic.

Beauty as far as the eye can see lies just beyond the home’s saltwater pool.

What do you think the best element of this modern Italian home tour is? My favorite part by far is how seamlessly and artfully Lissoni brought the region’s natural beauty inside.
