I took the saying “it’s all in the details” quite literally when it came to creating my new workspace. I was meticulous (possibly overly so) about everything from finishes to what is holding the inspirational images on my DIY bulletin board in place.
While classic silver thumbtacks offer a traditional and polished look, I wanted to take my bulletin board one step further. Fueled my desire to find beauty in even the smallest of details, I was inspired to create this unique gemstone push pin DIY.
This project costs around $25 thanks to a very short list of required materials. Don’t let the price tag fool you though, the price may be modest but the impression these 12 millimeter pins leave is huge.
MATERIALS
7/16 inch head (11 mm) steel thumbtacks
12 mm round flat-back gemstones
To make your own gemstone push pins lay your gemstones face down so their flat backs are up. Apply a dot of jewelry and metal glue to the flat back of each of the gemstones and spread the glue evenly over the flat area. Center the face of your push pins over the flat back of the gemstones, now covered in glue, and place them firmly on the back face.
Apply light pressure for 30-60 seconds until the gemstones and push pins adhere to one another. Allow the glue to set for several hours and begin embellishing your bulletin board!
While the price tag for this project is small and the instructions simple, the impact these gemstones have accenting favorite quotes and images is huge. When they catch the light they shine like ornate pieces of jewelry, adding a surprising hint of luxury to the most unexpected of places.
