Springtime Living Room Remodel

April 28, 2016

When my husband and I initially moved in together it was into his pre-existing apartment.  We planned on living there for at least another year and slowly began purchasing new pieces of furniture and art to replace the “bachelor” items he previously had in place.  It was exciting to pick out new items together and, after over a year, our main living space had come together in a way I was really happy with.

Fast forward to a couple months later when we were forced to move to a newly renovated apartment across the hall.  Our new home is absolutely gorgeous but has an entirely different layout than our last one.  All of the furniture and art we excitedly purchased?  Well, it awkwardly found a home in our new loft-like living/dining/office space.  Awkwardly being the key word.  It works and I did my best to make it feel like home but after living in the new apartment for six months it has become so clear that some changes are needed in order to achieve our desired layout.

When I came across online interior design website Laurel & Wolf, I was inspired to dream up a living room remodel and to start really thinking about what changes I’d like to make in our space.  While I may not be able to achieve them all immediately, I’m confident that by getting my ideas together I am taking the first step in turning this dream living room remodel into a reality.

Bohemian Beachside Living

April 21, 2016

If this beachside abode isn’t the epitome of a perfect summer retreat for a free spirit I don’t what is.  Australian firm Les Interieurs created the absolute perfect spot to steal away from reality in this North Sydney abode.  The white backdrop, the the natural light pouring through the giant windows and open doors; it’s a dream space to renew and recharge one’s soul.  I find the seamless flow of indoor and outdoor living so inspiring and the monochrome color palette?  Color me charmed.  I’m ready to book my ticket and steal away for a month-long siesta by the sea.

Simple Bedroom Updates for Spring

April 7, 2016

There is nothing quite like the feeling of fresh beginnings that comes with the first warm and sunny days of spring.   The grass looks a little greener, the air feels a bit cleaner, flowers are in bloom at every turn, even the birds seem to sing a sweeter song.  The change in season is nothing short of inspiring.

My favorite way to take advantage of that spring momentum each year is by freshening up my home.  It feels like a necessary rite of passage, readying me for brighter days ahead.  I find that by making simple changes throughout my home, particularly in my bedroom so hints of spring are felt the second I wake up, I’m quickly able to get in the spirit.  With that in mind, I’m sharing the simple steps I take to get my bedroom spring ready.

Small Balcony Styling On A Budget

March 31, 2016

Our balcony is finished!  After much preparation, gathering inspiration, creating a detailed plan for the layout, and one very fun DIY, I am pleased to finally reveal the fruits of my balcony labor.

As I previously mentioned, we were working under several constraints, one of which was budgetary. Let me tell you, balcony styling on a budget is no easy task, especially once Spring rolls around and stores are filled with adorable, high priced outdoor living finds.  Thanks to my detailed planning I was ultimately able to keep my budget to just under $200 as planned.  While this meant I had to make a few concessions (you’ll see one of them below in the form of Lola’s perch), I’m still really happy with how our little balcony space turned out.

Bo Bedre Home Tour

March 24, 2016

As promised last month I successfully branched away from sharing yet another Maison Hand home tour.  I almost caved at one point as I crossed paths with another fabulous example of the duo’s work, but fortunately Danish design site Bo Bedre helped me through that tough moment.

I recently became acquainted with Bo Bedre and am becoming increasingly obsessed with their website.  It’s full of Scandinavian home tours, up and coming designers, amazing furniture and homeware, and lots and lots of illegible (to me) Danish.   But hey, who needs to understand what’s being said when you have these gorgeous images to swoon over?

The Bo Bedre home tour I’m sharing this month is literally a marriage between two styles.  Couple Jennifer and Esben had two contradictory design styles in mind when they began planning their dream home.  Esben brought a more modern aesthetic to the table while Jennifer preferred the feel of a cozy Italian villa.  Their home achieves a perfect balance between the two.

The home’s open floor plan, high ceilings and sweeping views ensure that the house is bright and welcoming, representing Esben’s taste.  You can see traces of Jennifer’s love of the Italian countryside in both interior and exterior brickwork, perfectly offset by contemporary furniture and fixtures to ensure a decidedly twenty-first century feel.

The low furniture of this living space makes the ceilings feel even higher and the floor to ceiling windows even larger.
