The day has finally come to share a glimpse into the room that is quickly becoming my favorite in our little house, the kitchen. When we took ownership in June, the kitchen was painted the same lovely green color as the bathroom. The green paint cast a dark shadow over the room, making it look like it was in all around worse shape than it actually was. We remedied that issue by bringing painters in on the second day we were in the house, brightening up the room with a gorgeous blue-gray color of paint. We suddenly found ourselves with a bright, inviting space that, even with slightly dated cabinets and countertops, immediately felt like home. It is truly amazing what a simple coat of paint can do!
We have made a few minor changes to the room since that first week, bringing in new pieces of furniture and various accents. We love the progress that we have made with the room and are looking forward to enjoying it as is…at least for the time being!
I have taken you through the design process behind my office and bathroom, now it’s time to begin sharing our kitchen! As I have mentioned previously, our home has mid-century bones and was built 20 – 30 years after the other homes on our street. As a result, our home already has a fairly modern floor plan compared to those around it. That means that we lucked out and have a large eat-in kitchen as opposed to the small, separate kitchen and dining room layouts common in Kansas City homes built-in the 1920’s – 1930’s.
We are also fortunate that our kitchen was completely renovated in 2007. While that does mean that some aspects are a bit outdated 11 years later, it also means that our cabinetry, countertops, and appliances are still in perfectly decent shape and that a renovation is in no way necessary (score!). For that reason, today’s mid-century bohemian kitchen inspiration is focused on budget-friendly, cosmetic fixes rather than a major overhaul. It is amazing how a couple of cans of paint and a few simple additions and accessories can give a space a completely new life!
Room reveal days are quickly becoming some of my favorites because they allow me to share a bit more of myself with all of you. Much like my mid-century bohemian office, our Kansas City home’s single bathroom has been a labor of love to get it from the state it was in when we first moved into our home in June to where it is today. As I mentioned when I shared the inspiration behind the space, there may be a full bathroom renovation in our future because the space could be utilized a lot better. Never the less, the room is a far cry from the lime green horror it was when we initially moved in. (If you missed seeing that particular putrid shade of green the first time around, be sure to check it out. It was something else.) It has been a little over a month since I shared my first round of inspiration for our new home. While that was geared towards my home office, this time around I am sharing my influences behind our bathroom. As a single-bath home, we are fortunate to have a large amount of square footage dedicated to our bathroom. We have grand plans for a full bathroom renovation down the road, should we stay in this house, but in the meantime we are happily enjoying having a bit more space than we did in any of our Los Angeles bathrooms. The mid-century bohemian bathroom inspiration that I am sharing with you today represents just the first wave of our bathroom plans. There will undoubtedly be many makeovers and updates to follow at a later date.
