Living Room Makeover Reveal

October 20, 2016

This living room makeover reveal is a long time coming and I sincerely apologize for the delay. When I originally shared my plans to give our main living space a mini makeover back in July, I did not anticipate that it would take quite this long. Alas, time got away from me and one trip to Paris, a few very jam packed months and a couple of unplanned purchases later, we are nearing the end of October and I JUST put the finishing touches on the space. Better late than never, right?

When I first began discussing my plans to spruce up our open plan living room I shared a few sources of inspiration that I was keeping in mind when planning DIY projects and purchases. The consistent element in the images I shared was the combination of natural elements and textures such as leather and wood with more modern features like glass, splashy metallics and bold art. The aim was to find a happy medium between my husband and my individual styles and to create a space that equally represents us both. I am happy to report that we feel like we achieved that result and are quite pleased with how the space turned out. Without further ado, I’m very happy to finally share our mini living room makeover reveal.

The time has come to share our living room makeover reveal! We successfully mixed natural elements with modern features to create a very eclectic look.

DIY Soundwave Art

August 24, 2016

Music has played a huge role in my life individually and continues to have a large impact on the life my husband and I are building together. The two of us wanted to visually represent that influence in our home and became hooked on the idea of incorporating the image of a soundwave from a meaningful song somewhere in our decor.

When I began planning our living room mini makeover a couple of months ago I noticed that the inclusion of unique and bold art was a theme that ran throughout my inspirational images. It became clear to me that I needed to add some into our main living space and what better way to do so than by creating our long desired DIY soundwave art.

This simple DIY soundwave art tutorial can turn a special song or spoken memory into personalized art you can carry with you through life.

DIY Acrylic Tray

August 11, 2016

My interior style is, for the most part, modern eclectic airing on the side of gender neutral. Around my house we like clean lines, cool, neutral tones and a few textural elements mixed in here and there to break things up a bit. Every now and again however I love to throw in a touch of glamour. Hey, I have to get my fix of femininity somewhere, especially in our masculine-leaning main living space.

When I came across this agate acrylic tray it was love at first sight. I had wanted to get a little drink tray for our living room and the stunning find would have made for the perfect one. The price tag however brought forth some very different feelings; $420 for a medium sized tray?!

Upon further review of the piece I became even more perplexed. The tray is made from photographs of agate stones, acrylic and drawer pulls for handles. It was practically begging to be recreated as a budget friendly DIY acrylic tray.

This DIY acrylic tray proves that big style doesn't have to cost big money. Based on a $420 design, this $30 tray makes a functional & gorgeous addition to any home.

Gold Chair and Lamp DIY

July 7, 2016

When I first began designing my new workspace I quickly discovered one consistent theme that carried throughout all my inspirational images – the presence of subtle metallic elements. Based on my use of gold and silver foil in previous DIY projects (seen here, here and here), it’s fairly obvious that I love a good pop of metallic. For my workspace I wanted to branch away from the undone look I previously achieved through foiling and create something more muted and subdued. That is where this gold chair and lamp DIY came into play.

This gold chair & lamp DIY is a cost effective way to dress up basic furniture & household items, elevating them to pieces that are anything but ordinary.

Gemstone Push Pin DIY

June 23, 2016

I took the saying “it’s all in the details” quite literally when it came to creating my new workspace. I was meticulous (possibly overly so) about everything from finishes to what is holding the inspirational images on my DIY bulletin board in place.

While classic silver thumbtacks offer a traditional and polished look, I wanted to take my bulletin board one step further.  Fueled my desire to find beauty in even the smallest of details, I was inspired to create this unique gemstone push pin DIY.
