Workspace Reveal

June 30, 2016

It is no secret that the completion of my new dedicated work area has been much anticipated. I enthusiastically shared the entire process of creating it from start to finish, beginning with the inspiration behind the space.

The common themes throughout my inspiration were simplicity and the use of muted shades and toned down metallic accents. I had rather lofty high end goals in mind and I knew that I would have to be resourceful in order to achieve an end result that I was happy with. Did I mention this all had to happen on a very limited budget? It was time to get creative.

Over the last few weeks I shared two DIYs I completed that helped get me part of the way towards my goal; first a custom bulletin board that provides a gorgeous backdrop for inspirational images and words and next a gemstone pushpin DIY to compliment the bulletin board in a unique way. I have a third and final DIY to divulge next week but in the meantime the big moment has finally arrived. It’s time for my workspace reveal!

Workspace Reveal

When we moved into our new home we picked out the bookcase you see in the photos for two main reasons. Number one, we loved the industrial look of it and knew it would work perfectly in our loft-like main living area. Number two, we knew a complimentary narrow laptop desk would be able to slide next to it in the future and potentially provide me with a workspace. Therefore there was never much of a question as to what desk I’d get. Due to the fact my desk is in the middle of our living space it was very important to me that it blend in and take up as little room as possible.

Workspace Reveal

After bringing my desk home one of the challenges I needed to address in a cost effective manner was the blank wall space directly above it. I toyed with hanging various pieces of existing art or photographs but ultimately decided that it would make the space distractingly busy. Instead I opted to finally find a home for the DIY Anthropologie mirrors I created several months ago and hung them diagonally above my desk. They look right at home if I do say so myself! I may add another small piece under the square mirror but will likely leave it as is.

Since the surface of the desk is relatively small and my laptop takes up over a third of it, I wanted to keep the remaining area uncluttered. My bulletin board of course found a home on the desk along with some little storage baskets my mom brought back from her one of her treks. You can see now why it was so crucial to have the marble pencil holder attached to the bulletin board! The desk is completed by a small lamp with a gold base to provide light during all of those late nights spent blogging.

So here it is, finally completed and ready to show the world. I realize it’s a small and simple space but I put so much energy and effort into creating an area that would continually inspire me and at the same time not break the bank. I could not be happier with how my workspace turned out and have noticed a major uptick in my productivity since I completed it. I call that a win!
